Bitcraze will not take off vertically - Seems M4 is at fault

Post by EMartinez »

Hello,

I have searched and found relatively similar questions but I have tried them and none works. I have plotted the values for several variables, and it seems just odd that the trend for the stabilizer.yaw is way off from the other two trends. I initially thought there would be some hair holding the M4, and indeed there was some, but after thoroughfully cleaning it, it is still having that behavior. I have tried slowly increasing the power until it gets off the ground to see if there would be any difference, and it has no difference. I have also noticed that this very motor is the first one to stop spinning after powe is brough to zero. Could it be a defective motor?

Thank you in advance.

Best regards from Australia.

It looks like a damaged motor. Does it sound bad when it is spinning? Sometimes the top motor bearing can be depressed or the motor can be dented by the PCB arm. Sometimes it is fixable and sometimes the motor has to be replaced.

Thanks for the reply. No, there is no weird sound at all. I'll replace the motor and see if there is any change.

Have you thought about soldering connectors to the board instead of having users soldering the cables? It is a lot of pain, particularly if you are replacing a motor as the holes get clogged with solder. It would make maintanability easier.

It was indeed a damaged motor. Once I replaced it, i can now take of relatively vertically. I confirmed it was the motir first by holding the copter firmly and monitoring the motor trends; whereas the other three motors showe consistent output, M4 showed a steady decrease in performance over a few seconds (hence its apparent weakness compared ti the other three).

I'll have to buy a few spare ones...

Thanks for the help! :)
