Keychain camera on CrazyFlie?

Post by highihiggins »

Hello! This is my first post here, so don't know if this is the right place to ask, but I came across this: http://www.bitcraze.se/2012/10/another- ... mera-hack/.
I was wondering how you did it? More specifically, how did you transmit the data from the camera to Python (I presume?). And how did you hook up the camera to the CrazyFlie?
I'm an A.I. master student, so I know how to program, but the hardware wiring side I'm not entirely comfortable with, so if you could use small words there
Thanks in advance!

The camera is only a camcorder and records video on a micro SD card. We had a connector that fitted the keychain camera battery connector. We removed the original keychain battery and connected the cable to Crazyflie battery terminal by soldering it underneath and then to the battery connector on the keychain camera. It would also be possible to connect/solder it to VCOM and DGND in the expansion header. VCOM has the advantage of turning on/off with the Crazyflie but might contain some more electrical noise which might effect the video.

Hi, thanks for the reply! So it's not possible to send the recorded images in a stream to the computer, so that it can be remotely controlled from there? That's a shame, since I wanted to try some simple image processing on it to fly autonomously.
Do you know any other type of camera this small that could wirelessly communicate in some way?

Analog cameras and a digitizer on the PC can be used. See this post.

The suggested topic uses a 1g camera. (Total weight 24g so 4g in electronics (crazyflie is 19g)) The keychain camera weight is approx 17g + same electronics 4g + 19g crazyflie = 40g. This would mean the crazyflie lifting twice his own weight + 2g
I still have to do some testing to do but following the specs a crazyflie can only lift 5-10g. Wich makes a total of 29g max < 40g

what about dismanteling the ps3 remotes and just rearange the compontens so that you have a better center of gravity?
