Hi,

So my battery connector broke after many hours of enjoyable tinkering, I tried to solder in a new one but am having some trouble .. is a bit of a hash job and when I connect the battery something starts smoking!

I disconnect the battery quickly and plug in the cable for power and the crazyflie comes to life and passed the self test without problems.

I'm not sure what to do really, I'm reluctant to try soldering again it's all a bit messy now. I could use the board in other robotics projects I guess but I'd like to get it flying again if possible.

I do have a big quad deck, can I somehow power the crazyflie up using connectors on that?

Any other suggestions?

PS .. I thought it was possible to just buy a replacement board as opposed to the whole kit but can't find it in the store anymore.

Yes, the Crazyflie can be powered from the big quad deck. You can either connect (at least) one of the motor connectors (M1-4) to an ESC (Electronic Speed Controller) that includes a BEC (Battery Eliminator Circuit) or to a separate BEC. The ESC or the separate BEC should be connected to the Battery (LiPo).

Thanks for your response, unfortunately I don't have a ESC and have recently moved to a remote part of Ecuador and so getting one isn't easy ..

I do have the breakout board for the crazyflie .. any way I can connect a battery to that and that to the crazyflie to power it?

Or perhaps you can point me to a guide that will help me build a suitable battery eliminator circuit on the breakout board?

Alternatively, any reason why I shouldn't connect the battery to a micro usb cable and plug it into the micro usb socket on the crazyflie time power it?

If you just want to power the Crazyflie without using the motors, VUSB is enough and you can power it from the usb connector or the deck connector: https://wiki.bitcraze.io/_media/project ... exing2.png

If you want to use the motor drivers to drive the Crazyflie brushed motor, the battery voltage needs to be fed from the battery connector. The reason is that the motors are driven directly from vbat: https://wiki.bitcraze.io/_media/project ... matics.pdf
