[resolved] major problems setting up software

Hi,

I just got my Crazyflie today. The problem is the software goes crazy and I cannot fly it. The horizon thing rolls around and around and all the bars go from 0 to 100% back to zero again, repeatedly.

I seem to be able to connect to it because I was able to update the firmware and it gave no errors. The lights flashed differently when this happened, too, so I believe that worked.

There two different cases that happen when I turn the crazyflie on. In both cases, the blue light is on constantly and the green light flashes a few times at the beginning and then never flashes again.

The other cases:
1. If I pick the crazyflie up and move it when turning it on, it flashes the red light very rapidly for a few times in a row, then pauses, then flashes very rapidly again. Repeat forever.

2. If I place it down and then turn it on, it flashes the red light in a regular pattern forever. I believe this is what it's supposed to do and should indicate that it passed its self tests.

In all cases, the software just shows a rolling horizon and bars that fill up and empty over and over. I can't even get a battery reading. ...yet it updated the firmware. So I have no idea what's wrong. I've tried changing the channel. It's currently on channel 15, 250 kbps. Oh, link quality is always 0%. But is it truth or a lie? I have no idea. I am sitting right beside the computer so surely I should get at least 1%.

I tried this on the default channel, as well (I think that was 10). It behaved exactly the same way.

What's funny is if I turn the crazyflie off and try to connect in the software with the device off, it behaves *exactly the same way*. I mean, I see exactly all the same things as I see when the device is powered on. I can even unplug the Crazyradio and it still runs exactly the same way.

So I really have no clue what's going on. I installed the latest Crazyradio Windows driver for Windows 7, I installed the latest binary for the control software, I have that thing installed for my joystick, and...not sure what else there was. Oh, I attempted to flash the firmware but I have no idea if that worked or not, although I suspect it did since it changed the flashing of the lights when I did it. To confirm that it uploaded the firmware, I did it again right now as of this typing, and it definitely communicated. I changed the channel to 5. It updated. I went back to the software. Everything is still rolling and going crazy.

Needless to say, not only does it not fly, but the controller has no effect on it.

Any ideas what to do?

To add, I followed the assembly instructions carefully. I tested the motor connections with a meter and they were 2 ohms between pads as it said they should be. The motors also rotate slightly whenever it's turned on, which I believe they're supposed to do (a friend has one and I've seen it working).

OK so I was an idiot and just not actually picking the Crazyflie in the options when trying to connect. I think it was connecting to debug or something. Problem entirely solved and I just spent the last hour playing with it (I got a few batteries for it). My next problem is that I'm a terrible quadcopter pilot.
