Wireless Charger

Post by surajr008 »

Using the Touch Stone and Palm Pre phone cover I made a wireless inductive charger. It works but still needs modifications.

You can buy the components from Amazon for around $15 and free shipping with Prime ;)

Here is a proof of concept video:

The receiving coil from the Palm Pre is soldered to a micro-USB cable and then attached to the the bottom of the Crazyflie. Connect the positive and negative leads as shown in the picture and keep the metal shield attached to the back of the coil. Also maintain the positioning of the four small magnets to make sure the coil aligns properly with the Touchstone for efficient power transfer. I lost two of the magnets and hence the difficulty in aligning in the video.

I experimented with connecting it directly to the battery to reduce the weight of the micro-USB connector but could not get it to work. The LiPo battery has a safety circuit built into it and I'm currently trying to figure out what it does. (probably a voltage regulator)

Thoughts? Ideas? Help?

Nicely done!

You can use the solder it to the pads directly behind the micro-USB connector, called P8 in page 4 of the schematics. There P8 pads are just wired in parallel without protection so don't charge both with USB and trough P8 at the same time (I think the touchstone circuit has some protection for this though).
