Basic Hover Mode - on/off problem

I am running the crazyflie on Linux using a PS3 controller and I'm trying to get the basic hover mode working. So far without luck.

In essence, I can fly, but hover mode is not coming on. I have confirmed the controller is ok and I have located the initial merge where I can see an led sequence that is not activating either, although I haven't found the led's calling instruction yet.

Has anyone else reported a hover failure? Any pointers on where to start looking?

Dumb question time, how do you tell whether you have a 6 DOF or a 10 DOF Crazyflie...
