I couldn't find much people talking about flying the crazyflie with a flightsimultator-style joystick, even though to me it seems like a cool way to fly. I was just wondering if anyone has tried this and if it is works well, before I buy one.
If so, what brand and type of joystick are you using? Is the pc software compatible with all brands of joysticks?
I'm guessing it has to have at least a reasonably good quality finger-trigger for smooth controll of the throttle, and probably allow rotation to controll the yaw.

Re: Joystick instead of controller
I've tried with an saitek x52 and MS sidewinder joystick. Works as advertised and it is fun! In practise I found the PlayStation controller to be a lot easier, mainly because its portable. Also its easier to control rapid movements. Moving your thumb is faster than moving your wrist/lower arm.Ralph wrote:I couldn't find much people talking about flying the crazyflie with a flightsimultator-style joystick, even though to me it seems like a cool way to fly. Re: Joystick instead of controller
I just got my Crazyflie today and have been using a helicopter simulator joystick.
Pro Flight Trainer : Black Lynx
Its a standard HID USB controller with a 12 bit controller - so lots of data points for control.
I am using the collective as the Thrust, Pedals for Yaw and the Cyclic for Pitch/Roll.
Will try using the rotating throttle for Thrust later.
Don't have a PlayStation controller for comparison but it is working well and easy to fly.
It actually respond a little like a real helicopter using very small cyclic movements.
Still just getting started but its a great little Quadcopter.

Re: Joystick instead of controller
Cool! I did a similar experiment with an X52 Pro (10bit resolution afaik) and it worked well for nice stable flight. But for acrobatic flying i find the Ps3 controller (also 10 bit) much easier to flick the flie controlls from full one way to the opposite. Enjoy! I gotta check out that Black Lynx.1987c1 wrote:I just got my Crazyflie today and have been using a helicopter simulator joystick.

Holy cow! X52 or any other desk mounted joystick is no comparison to that beast
