[SOLVED]Cannot Find a Crazyradio Dongle

Post by EPHorizon »

Hi there,

I'm currently having an issue connecting the Crazyradio to my laptop. I performed all prior steps for installation, and everything works fine on another laptop (Windows 7, 64 bit). However, on my main computer, a Windows 7, 64 bit system, the cfclient seems unable to locate the Crazyradio dongle. Pressing "Connect" lists only the debug option, and no LEDs on the radio flash at any time. When I try the bootloader, as soon as I click "Initiate bootloader cold boot," it immediately says "Cannot find a Crazyradio Dongle." When I insert the radio into a USB port, the red and yellow LEDs light up for a brief moment, then remain off. The radio is also listed under Device Manager, and is "Working properly." I've looked all across the forums and web, but there seems to be a lack of solutions to this exact problem.

I have installed and reinstalled the cfclient several times, and have removed, redownloaded, and reloaded the Windows driver several times as well, without the slightest effect. I know definitively that the radio works, and performs normally on my other laptop (and it even runs just fine on a Raspberry Pi headless), but simply refuses to do anything on my personal unit. The only thing I can think of is the fact that the laptop only has USB 3.0 ports, but I have also tried using a 2.0 hub to no avail.

I'm about at my wits end trying to make this run on my own system, so any help or insight would be greatly appreciated.

This sounds like a libusb conflict. Do you have gopro studio installed? We have seen some conflicts with that.

You could also try to update the Crazyradio firmware to the newest version (0.52).
That might help with USB 3.0 related problems.

You can download the firmware binary here:
https://bitbucket.org/bitcraze/crazyrad ... o-0.52.bin

And use the instructions in the wiki to flash it:
http://wiki.bitcraze.se/projects:crazyradio:programming

NOTE: You'll need to do that on a PC that actually recognizes the Crazyradio.

@tobias

I've read about the gopro conflict, but it doesn't seem to be the cause. I don't have that software installed, and the device manger only lists the CrazyRadio under the libusb driver.

@derf

I've debated trying that, but wasn't sure if it was safe to try. Next time I have access to my other computer I'll give it a shot.

I'll post back with the results.

Finally! After hours of mucking around, building modules manually, and installing and reinstalling everything I could think of, I found the problem. It turns out I still had a partially uninstalled version of "GoPro Cineform Studio" that I forgot about months ago. It doesn't show up as "GoPro Studio 2.0," but rather as "Cineform Studio." I'm guessing it's an older version of the software.

Either way, after uninstalling the software it connected immediately! Now to work on programming the little fella to fly in a circle :twisted: .

Everything else failed for me, until I followed the instructions here:
http://news.softpedia.com/news/How-to-F ... 1715.shtml

...and they worked!
The VMWare Linux environment now talks to the Crazyradio PA.

What is the issue here? Can't the VMWare image be shipped with the bitcraze user in the correct group?

Hi, since yesterday I have the same issues here (last week it still worked). Cannot find dongle when trying to connect to bootloader. Working with cfclient 2015-08 (but the same with 2016-04) on Win7 (not VM). And I've never had GoPro Studio installed. So by now none of the described solutions works for me.

What I've noticed is that the dongle is dis- and reconnected in the device manager shortly after I press the connect button.

Any idea would be helpful..

Any possibility to get more information. Does it how up in the device manager. Does the leds on the Crazyradio blink when you insert the it? Any possibility to try on another computer?
