We bought a CrazyFlie Nano 10DOF, a CrazyRadio, and a PS2 Controller from RobotShop and are having trouble controlling the CrazyFlie: everything is connecting properly, but we're having trouble controlling the altitude of the quad because we have to force against the spring of the remote. Is there a way to configure the Client/Host software to make it easier to control?

Yes you can switch to advanced flight mode and set the thrust region to be less responsive. Try:
Max thrust: 70%
Min thrust: 45%
Max thrust: 70%
Min thrust: 45%
