Radio not connecting, not even lighting up

Hi everyone,
New to the forums, excited to get my CrazyFlie set up :)

I've been trying to connect using the CrazyRadio, but it doesn't seem to even be turning on. I've tried in USB3.0 ports, 2.0 ports, a powered 2.0 hub, and the radio LEDs aren't even turning on.

Is it usual to at least get some activity if plugged in?

EDIT: I have been careful to avoid ESD, grounding myself and only holding the edges of the board, so I'm relatively sure it's a setup/configuration issue, unless these are known to sometimes arrive non-functioning?

Thanks,
~Alex

That is strange and the first case I see. Normally the LEDs should turn on as soon as the Crazyradio is powered. I'm have a suspicion that the diode has broken off during shipping. Can you see if the component D1 is missing? It is located just below the USB connector. It is safe to short the two pads where D1 where by soldering a short between them as long as the board isn't powered from the expansion header at the same time (which I don't think you will do). You can also contact Seeedstudio support to have them fix it (as they are responsible for the hardware).

Looks a problem with D1, good guess!

One of the joints looked dry, I gave it a nudge and the whole component crumbled off :S
Will be getting in touch with the shop to arrange a replacement or advice.

Thanks :)

OK, great and good luck fixing it. You can just but a little piece of wire which you solder between the pads. It can be a bit tricky though.

Had another look, when lit from behind it looks like the whole pad has come off!

Replacement it is :)

Thanks for your help.

If you want you can still fix it by soldering a small wire according to the picture below.
