Crazyflie with Infrared LED

Post by Dom »

I am planning to test Motion Capture shortly with my Crazyflie. It seems the best way is by tracking Infrared LEDs (IR-LEDs) attached to the device. These are very cheap to buy and I can imagine consume much power, however if 3 of these were to be fitted to the machine, how easy or difficult would it be to accomplish this ? any information much appreciated.

It would probably be pretty easy, but it depends on how you want to solve it. The LEDs only requires a resistor in series to limit the current and you can connect it to VCC in the expansion header which will be 2.8V when running from battery. If the IR-LEDs consume more then ~60mA together it might be better to connect it to VCOM. VCOM is a bit tricky though as it is the USB voltage when USB is connected and battery voltage when not.
