Power Usage

Post by lhdev »

I own a small company that is considering the devlopment of remotely power UAVs. The technoloy used is eye-safe laser based power beaming with TPV cells. If the li-po batery is removed from the quadcopter, what is the max mass that can be lifted, and min power requirements?

We have not been able to accurately measure the power usage when hovering but it is around 5W.

The battery weight is about 5g and the payload capability is 5-10g where 5g do not affect the performance that much and 10g is the maximum with very degraded performance. The payload capability without battery would then be 10-15g. With bigger payload the power consumption will go up.

We are also investigating possibility to switch to bigger more powerful motors where more payload is requested. The power path should be good for about 15W.

Many Thanks. I will use the 5 watt 5 grams number for now. The goal is to keep a Crazyflie hovering using power from an eyesafe 1.5 micron laser
