I build a second (lite) version of it, just a rubber and a string with a hock without the motor. Just for training 8-)
It is soo much FUN  to transport baskets from A to B. (video follows after I've trained a bit more :D )

@3D_Printer_Owners maybe you want to print your own hock and baskets?!?

This is just great! Next would be to send down a micro-rc car and make a "mars rover" landing :D

Great idea!
But if I remember the landing (see it live  ) correctly then was the end of curiositys skycrane not so good. The first garbage on Mars!

Here is a short status report of the CrazyCrane Project:
I used the crane from a toy helicopter called Air Hogs Fly Crane on YT (not by me). I bought it because of the crane :D and i flew the helicopter just a few times before i disassembled it.
After my first test flight i made the crane much lighter(see pic). I cut off some material from the housing of the reel, i replaced the original motor with a smaller/lighter one and use just the motor driver ic and cut the PCB.
In the FW of the CF i mapped two GPIOs to the EXT Header of the CF and added some parameters to control it. Now, i can drive the crane up and down with parameters directly without the original remote.
I also mapped two buttons on the controller for it in the CF Client, but that doesn't work until now.
My actual to do is to look closer to the power consumption and some interference during the drive up and down. :?

But in the meantime I have a lot of fun to use just the hook on the CF and transport the baskets back and forth
