So this is a full-size hexacopter and not a quadcopter but I'm posting it in this sub-forum anyway...
I just saw this Kickstarter and it looks pretty promising. The CyPhy LVL 1 drone is a hexacopter built by CyPhy (by iRobot co-founder Helen Greiner). It looks quite interesting and it's open source! They're using a fork of Tau Labs UAV software for control. They have a payload mount with data and power ports and the potential to transmit data over WiFi. It's controllable via mobile phone but boasts RC RX/TX compatibility so you can use a fancy transmitter. Looks pretty promising...
