I saw that the Flow breakout board Arduino library supports raw frame buffer capture (get the raw image that the sensor sees- bit by bit)
I couldn't any information about the theoretical max raw frames per seconds (FPS) of PMW3901 using the SPI.

So to understand exactly, you would like to capture the actual image?
I wouldn't know exactly what the frame rate is exactly to be honest. It has been a very recent pull request so you can check it out here: https://github.com/bitcraze/Bitcraze_PMW3901/pull/9. @Arnaud tried it out so I will ask him next week if he was able to measure this as well.
