This sounds like a nice project.
I already do too much projects, so this I will only watch.
-But I do have a tip on a lightweight video CMOS camera:

Web search MC900, (you find many on Alibaba.com) very light and only 9,5x9,5x12 mm
I have used it in a pipe inspection camera. You can also find it with different view angles.

Thanks for the tip. The camera looks a lot like the one we bought from FPVhobby.
