BigQuad: ESC questions

Post by RifRaf »

I have two question regarding the BigQuad Deck and ESCs.
  • First is that we've read that the ESC needs to be calibrated before use, so does the BigQuad deck have a feature that allows it to calibrate ESCs?
  • Second is according to the wiki, it is necessary to connect 5v from one of the ESC to the BigQuad deck during setup. We have finished the setup of our BigQuad and everything seems to be running fine even without that particular connection. We've already connected the Crazyflie 2.0 to the BigQuad deck. The Crazyflie is being powered by a 5v input coming from our BEC. All the motors seem to be running correctly.

Do we still need to add that 5v connection, or will it be it alright if we left it alone?

There are still features that are left to be implemented such as motor calibration, PID value savaing, etc.

With today's ESCs there are often an accurate clock (xtal) so calibration is most likely not needed.

If you have a BEC that is totally fine, just provide power to one of the 5v connections on the BQ-deck (all 5V are interconnected).
